Tahine (or is it tahini?) is: toasted sesame seeds ground to a paste. Do you know it?
I've known store bought tahine all my life, which I use in various meals/recipess, and don't recall thinking about preparing the paste at home.
But, my darlings, living in a tiny town and craving specific foods can open some doors, you know?
This one day I was on the mood for Arabic food. I bought eggplant, chickpeas, sesame seeds and made it all from scratch. I felt great realizing how quick and simple it was to prepare such a feast.

What I learned from my mother

21/01/2018 - 5 Comments - Sink Philosophy | Family

I have learned endless lessons from my mother – both the kind of things which I am proud of knowing, and the kind of things we try to unlearn together. What’s funny about this is that I have not learned the main because she tought me.

Right now, while Summer heat is approaching, plants grow, leavens bubble, schedules become tight. Our minds are so full, all one asks for is refreshment – a breath of life.
A great way to deal is drinking plenty of water (and some beer once in a while ;). Another way is to go all out into salads with sprouted grains and seeds.

In the germination process, seeds and grains let out all of the energy they have stored, in the intention of nourishing the new plant that is coming to life. So, besides having more nutrients available at this point, they are more easily digested and absorbed.
Along with root, fruit, and leafy vegetables and a good sauce, we can quench hunger in a light and practical way. This salad is great on lunchboxes and hurried days in general. Check out how to do it!

DIY Personal care

04/09/2017 - 5 Comments - Recipes | Baking soda, Cleaning

I've always been fond of foods, medicine and personal care which are simple and minimally processed. Like preparing my own bread, yogurt, using propolis to heal minor cuts and scratches, and moisturizing my hair with aloe vera.
But once, around 2013, I got really pissed about hair frizz and started searching online for some product that would help me fix my curls.
In the search, the so called "no poo" showed up: the habit of washing hair without shampoo. It appeared again and again as a solution for beatiful hair. In spite of the skepticism, I gave it a try. And never went back.

Since then, my bathroom counter has less and less packages.
My skin, hair, teeth - personal care in general - are doing fine. Actually, now and then someone comments I smell nice ;) In a sum, here I share what we could call a "beauty routine" (and the corresponding recipes).

Stencil is a very accessible technique used for decoration which renders beautiful results. It delivers your message in walls, t-shirts, and even cakes.
Basically, we cut out a surface, and the parts taken out of the paper form the drawing that will be printed. I think the picture below will help.

I really enjoy playing around with stencil, so I experiment with detailed images, such as the Nacho Libre below. Anyway, I have also made cakes embellished with only a couple of hearts and find it beautiful. Since Rebeca asked me, I have prepared this post to explain how to make stencils.
